Samsung Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note S rumors continue, aiming for March release

Posted by - January 31st, 2012

Along with the latest rumors coming out today, we’ve heard plenty about the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S III. We don’t expect these to slow down anytime soon either. Latest reports from MobileCowboys are giving us some interesting details — including an early March release for the Galaxy S III and even a Galaxy Note S coming later. More details after the break.

First off I want to start with the Galaxy Note S. According to MobileCowboy Samsung’s aiming to release a successor to the original Note later this year around the holiday season and call it the Note S. Obviously I’m taking this with a huge grain of salt — like a massive 5.3″ grain of salt. Although with the S in all their other naming schemes it sort of makes sense, I just don’t see it happening. These same leaks also claim a Galaxy S II Plus is on the way with a little refresh but no other details were available.

Next, the important stuff, the Galaxy S III. According to the leakster Samsung will in fact be announcing the SGSIII at Mobile World Congress and be followed with a mid-March international release. They go as far as to say it will be for sale in their home country of Turkey come March 13th. Others like Apple launch devices within weeks of the announcement — so why not Samsung.

Previous reports (linked below) suggest Samsung has delayed the launch and will not be showing the SGSIII at Mobile World Congress. Instead they’ll aim for a bigger stage, doing big advertising and release it around the Summer Olympics. That actually makes sense with the recent announcement of their huge million dollar 90 second Super Bowl commercial coming this Sunday. Either way we’ll continue to monitor the rumors and details until we hear something more concrete.

Samsung likely to showcase Galaxy Note during Super Bowl

Posted by - January 31st, 2012

Samsung has been busy dishing out Galaxy S II spots during their anti-iPhone ad campaign over the past couple of months. Thanks to the humorously aggressive clips, catchphrases like “We just got Samsunged” and “Dude, you’re a barista” are now synonymous with the Samsung mobile brand. We expected Samsung to air one or two of these ads during Super Bowl XLVI, and while that still may happen, it looks like the Korean manufacturer will focus their efforts on another Android-powered device. In two successive tweets today, Samsung revealed their plans to market the Galaxy Note to the masses with an extended TV commercial during Super Bowl 46: We’re telling fans first: Next Sunday we launch a device so revolutionary only an ad in America’s biggest game can do it justice. To make our first ever SB ad as noteworthy as the #GalaxyNote itself, it will be one of the longest in the game. Look for it in Q4! The 2012 Super Bowl has generated a total of million in commercial advertising through 58 spots for NBC. Each 30 second ad sold for .5 million on average, with the highest selling advertisement tallying a whopping million. To put Samsung’s [...]

Samsung Galaxy S III GT-I9300, GT-I9800 models appear

Posted by - January 29th, 2012

The Samsung Galaxy S III, like its predecessor, is expected to be a compelling device when it hits the market later this year. That’s why even the smallest nugget of information surrounding the Android-powered smartphone seems to be news-worthy. In this case, the Galaxy S III has appeared on Samsung’s website, not represented by an image, but by its model number in their Global Download Center database. While it’s easy to peg the GT-I9300 as the Galaxy S III, it’s a bit difficult to tag the GT-I9800, which also appeared under a WiFi certification listing. Still, now that the latter model has been spotted, it’s only a matter of time before we find out more. Samsung was, and possibly still is, expected to unveil its latest flagship model at Mobile World Congress 2012 in late February, however, the latest rumor claims that will not happen. Android Community Weekly: January 28, 2012

Posted by - January 28th, 2012

We’re here with this week’s wrap-up to bring a those of you that may have missed a few days back up to speed! Monday, some analytics displayed that an overwhelming amount of US Android users prefer Samsung over any other carrier. It isn’t too hard to believe that Samsung is currently the most preferred smartphone brand, as their Galaxy S II line has dominated since it launched. Early on that same day, we saw that Asian cellphone carrier KDDI had incorporated pushed ads into Android’s notification bar. I’m sure you will all agree, this clearly crosses the line.

Gameloft and Verizon wireless partnered this week to help bring in-game chat to Android over 4G LTE . It should prove to be very successful, and the first game to offer it will be the popular title Asphalt 6. It’s kind of odd to see them implement voice chat in an auto game when it may have helped even more in a FPS like Modern Combat 3. Either way, if it’s successful we should see it implemented there too. Later that night, were any of you able to catch President Obama in a Google+ hangout after his State of the Union interview?

A few HTC Primo specs recently leaked, and they bring Android 4.0 and Beats Audio to the table for a relatively cheap price. It’s not the powerhouse we’ve been used to seeing, but for a midrange device it should do well. Another Siri clone was released this week called Evi, and has more potential than many others we have seen. If you plan on trying it out, there’s a good chance you won’t be disappointed.

It’s amazing what individuals have been able to use the Kinect for when paired with other devices. Using a Galaxy Nexus, Kinect, and projector – Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) was scaled to a wall, and even operable straight from the surface. This is simply awesome. Tuesday, Michael Crider had some hands-on time with the LG Spectrum. It looks to be LG’s best device yet, and the screen produces a great picture.

Wednesday, Google updated their privacy policies and terms of service. You’ve undoubtedly seen the update cue from any one of Google’s websites; what they actually did is condense the long pages of lawyer-talk from over 60 services, and created a universal ‘easy-to-read’ revision. I’m certainly not opposed to it, and it looks great.

Finally, we just got in a DROID RAZR Maxx unit to review – but until then check out our hands-on. It runs the exact same software as the current DROID RAZR, so you won’t see much of a difference. However, the real beauty of this device lies within the huge 3500mAh battery, and you can be sure we’ll be putting it to the test.

Rumor: WH40K MMO Cancelled, THQ Prepares For Liquidation Sale

Posted by - January 27th, 2012

Nothing more than rumor at this point.

Twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/TheKevinDent/status/158454172239409152
Kotaku detailing above leak: http://kotaku.com/5876253/thq-wipes-out-games-planned-for-2014-to-ready-itself-for-sale-says-insider

The Vigil-developed THQ-published MMO has had a very long and by all accounts troubled development history but was closing in on eventual release. However it’s rapidly becoming clear that the space for sub-0M budget releases by large publishers is becoming very tiny indeed.

Update: THQ denies the rumor.
