SBL Week 7 MVP: Shawn Hawkins

Posted by - November 23rd, 2010

金酒尚恩

KKL import Shawn Hawkins was named SBL Week 7 MVP after a brilliant week during which he averaged an astonishing 45.7 points and 14.3 rebounds in three games.

Hawkins scored 137 points in three nights, including 43 points in the game vs. Taiwan Beer, 31 points against Taiwan Mobile and a SBL single game record 63 points against Yulon.

The American forward, who join KKL in mid season, said he would trade the scoring record for more wins. KKL head coach Lo Tien-ching said he gave Hawkins the green lights to showcase his offensive skills on the court since the team has been plagued by injuries this season.

Despite Hawkins’ awesome performance, KKL ranked last in the seven-team league as of Saturday.

2010-11 SBL Weekly MVPs:
Week 7: Shawn Hawkins (KKL)
Week 6: Hong Chih-shan (PY)
Week 5: Yang Ching-min (TB)
Week 4: Rashad Jones-Jennings (PY)
Week 3: Rashad Jones-Jennings (PY)
Week 2: Yang Ching-min (TB)
Week 1: Tseng Wen-ting (Yulon)

Intel says Nokia should have went with Android

Posted by - November 3rd, 2010

Intel CEO Paul Otellini doesn’t think Nokia made the right choose when it came to going with Windows Phone over Android. It’s an odd statement from Otellini considering that Nokia and Intel were working together on MeeGo and the move to Windows Phones means that its own MeeGo OS is going by the wayside too.

According to Otellini Nokia went with Microsoft’s mobile OS thanks to a “huge” sum of money offered to secure the deal. That tidbit comes by way of the Manila Bulletin Newspaper. I think that Nokia would have had handsets that are more popular had they chosen Android.

However, Nokia has stated that it felt it would not be able to standout in the Android market. That is understandable and honestly, I am not sure if Nokia is capable of standing out in any market with some of the most boring handsets around.

2011 Mindao Cup International University Basketball Tournament

Posted by - November 1st, 2010

秩序冊

Six teams from four Asian countries will participate in the 2011 Mindao Cup International University Basketball Tournament, which will be held from Feb. 20-24 in Changhua County in central Taiwan.

The tourney, which is entering its third year, is organized by Mindao University, which finished 4th place last year — the first year it’s promoted to the University Basketball Association Division I after winning the Division II the previous year. Mindao advanced to the UBA quarterfinal round, which will be held later this year.

Six teams in this year’s field include the host Mindao University, Hanyang University and defending champion Kyung Hee University of South Korea, Meiji University of Japan, City University of Hong Kong and National Kaohsiung Normal University of Taiwan.

The tourney will adopt a single round robin format with each team playing five game.
